03/16/2020 – Child care centres closed; not including regulated family child care

Status of child care for essential workers

03/22/2020 - Minister Warr also announced today that options for the provision of regulated child care services to assist essential workers are being explored.

Status of funds to support services/pay staff


  • Families do not have to pay child care fees and that early childhood educators can continue to be paid while centres are closed due to COVID-19.
  • Provincial Government will provide funding to regulated child care centres and family child care homes at the child care subsidy program rates for all licensed spaces.
  • This assistance will be in place until April 30 and will be reassessed if closures are still in place at that time.
