Description:

Open Letter to the Prime Minister and all the Premiers

On International Women's Day, the CCAAC calls for leadership to bring Canada's 20th century child care and early childhood education conditions into the 21st century.

Affordable, high quality, universal child care has long been a core women's equality issue. The lack of progress makes no sense, economically or socially or according to Canada's commitments under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

We urgently call on our leaders to work collaboratively to develop an early childhood education and child care policy, taking into account traditional norms and conventions that are part of Canadian federalism, in the best interests of Canada's women, families, children, and-indeed-all Canadians. Let's recognize March 8, 2013 as International Women's Day and the right time to get started.
