Public daycare workers today begin striking for the first hour of each work day, and with babysitters in high demand, many parents are left with little choice but to show up late for their jobs.
Adding to parents' stress, daycare workers say they'll start showing up two hours late if the province refuses to budge over the next two weeks. CSN union spokesperson Jeff Begley recognized the hardship facing parents, but defended the job action by saying the Charest is leaving them with little choice.
"I don't understand what the interest is of the government not to come to an agreement, but our members have said enough is enough," Begley told The New 940 Montreal.
Gina Gasperini with the Quebec Association of Public Daycares told us dozens of daycares will be affected.
