Excerpts from the report:

There are many impressive initiatives currently underway in schools and communities throughout British Columbia today. These initiatives are particularly impressive, as most have evolved as cooperative ventures that are supported and sponsored by intersectoral community coalitions. This booklet represents an initial effort to begin documenting and disseminating the emerging stories of those initiatives, in order to create and strengthen a network that will provide mutual support and inspiration to all those involved.

In June 2006, HELP circulated a survey through school-district contacts that asked how schools could be supported in more effective ways. The response was a unanimous, province-wide request for the establishment of a comprehensive communication networking system, through which schools could link initiatives, share stories and provide mutual support for each other. As a result, HELP decided to host the February Symposium: A Bold Vision, and to begin documenting promising projects that were emerging in schools and local communities. The document that follows is only a beginning. It is a work in progress, although it promises much more.
