Thursday, Oct. 22 marks the 20th annual Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day, which recognizes the qualifications, dedication, and hard work of Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) and all staff who work with young children.

Social Services would like to pay tribute and extend sincere gratitude to the local Child Care Workers and Early Childhood Educators in licensed Child Care programs and EarlyON Child and Family Centres across the District of Sault Ste. Marie.

This year’s theme is 'Rising Up'! The early years sector has certainly risen up to the many challenges this year by providing Emergency Child Care to our community and by continuing to deliver quality child care and early years services in these unprecedented times.

At City Council, on Tuesday, Oct. 13, our Mayor of Sault Ste. Marie, Christian Provenzano, proclaimed the day, Oct. 22 as “Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day”.

Luke Dufour, Chair of the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board, acknowledges that, “The early years sector is playing a key role in the economic recovery of the community. We are proud to recognize and support their efforts on behalf of the children and families in our community."

"Like many families in our community who are negotiating their return to the workplace, my own family has relied on the caring professionalism of our Early Childhood Educators. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to those who work with my own child and those across the community. You play a critical and appreciated role in our economy and our home lives!” said Dufour.
