EXCERPTS

The B.C. government is boosting child care funding rates for children under three, but most of the increases amount only to a few cents a day.

The increases are being applied to the daily funding rates paid to licensed child care providers.

The rate for children getting four hours or less of group care will rise 86 cents to $6 a day, while the rate for kids getting more than four hours will rise by $1.72 to $12 a day. In the family care category, the rate for children getting four hours or less will rise by just 26 cents a day. Linda Reid, the minister of state for child care, says the changes will take effect Canada Day.
