Excerpt from overview: This report "tracks" and "charts" the connections between paid work and family trends for husbands, wives and lone-parents. The time span is generally 1990 to 2000. The report concludes from its findings that spouses share in the responsibilities for paid work and unpaid work, though husbands remain the main source of incomes from paid employment and that although more wives now work at jobs outside the home, they also retain the major responsibilities for child and family care. Policy implications of these findings are discussed at the end of this report.
