The Organization for the Protection of Children's Rights of Canada (O.P.C.R.) will organise and host the Fifth International Conference on the Child to be held at the Hilton Montreal Airport Hotel, Dorval, Quebec, Canada, on May 23 to May 25, 2002. The theme is CHILDREN AND POVERTY: The Impact of Economic, Social and Political Choices.

The Fifth International Conference on the Child will provide a world scale forum on Children's Rights. The O.P.C.R. is concerned with the escalating problem of Children and Poverty. The objective of this conference is to make recommendations for the development of programs and policies to reduce and eventually eliminate poverty. The conference will also seek to identify problem-solving strategies for families dealing with this issue. Through such an event, the O.P.C.R. is providing academics and professionals the opportunity to generate a positive debate and work towards solutions.
Sub-themes :Poverty and Exploitation: Child prostitution, street children and child labor, community solutions, poverty and indigenous communities, poverty and the changing family, poverty, health and child development, children's rights and social problems, children and the justice system.
