The purpose of the conference is to bring together academics, policy makers, practitioners, representatives from the voluntary sector, and other interested parties to examine policy, programs and services in the field of social welfare. The theme of this year's conference is "Wealth, Health and Welfare: Tensions and Passions". Themes to be discussed include: globalization and localization; individual and collective rights; and marginalization - inclusion/exclusion.

Conference co-sponsors include: Human Resources Development Canada, Canadian Council on Social Development, the University of Calgary, the City of Calgary, the Alberta College of Social Workers, and the Canadian Association of Social Workers.
