At an international early childhood education and care conference in Stockholm in mid-June, the Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) released "Starting Strong", the report of its review of early childhood education and care in 12 countries. "Starting Strong" identified a number of policy lessons learned from the review, including the need for a universal approach to access, the need for substantial public investment in services and ECEC infrastructure and the desirability of a systematic approach to policy and programs.

Come to a presentation on international early childhood education and care by two members of the Canadian delegation to Stockholm - Martha Friendly and Julie Mathien. The presentation will include an outline of Starting Strong, information on the progress of ECEC in the 12 countries that participated in the review, observations from site visits to Stockholm ECEC programs, lessons learned and implications for Canada, Ontario and Toronto. Questions and discussion will follow.
