EXCERPTS

The City has just learned that the Provincial government is cutting funding expected to expand child care this year in Toronto. In June, the City was promised $11.5M to support new affordable child care spaces. This week we learned that the amount will be $6.5M - a cut of $5M.

This funding would have created almost 500 fee subsidies to help some of the 14,300 children on the wait list, and support families to return to work or school. This funding was for Year Two of the former provincial commitment to expand child care by 100,000 spaces in 5 years. The City is waiting to learn if the multi-year plan to increase child care services will continue under the Doug Ford government.
