PRESS RELEASE

Ministry of Education Early Years and Child Care Policy Branch workforce study survey - Deadline Dec 1

If you have not had a chance to provide your feedback on this important issue yet, we urge you to do so by Friday December 1, 2017. The AECEO is currently reviewing and will be submitting and publishing a response to the regulatory posting by the deadline. However it is important that the Ministry receive as many responses as possible that reflect the expertise of RECEs to support regulations that are in the best interests of children, families and the professionals that form the backbone of quality in early learning and child care programs in Ontario.

A key part of the AECEO's submission will be our strong support for, and agreement with, the government's proposal to revoke the Schedule 2 optional approach to age groupings and ratios (which has not been yet implemented). We commend the government for listening to the concerns of AECEO members and many other voices in the sector. The AECEO Board of Directors believes that the Schedule 2 proposal, which increased group sizes and age ranges for infants and toddlers, was not consistent with the government's Early Years Vision to "ensure that Ontario's children and families are well supported by a system of responsive, high-quality, accessible, and increasingly integrated early years programs and services" and not in the best interests of children or early childhood educators.

It is important to note that the revocation of Schedule 2 is just a proposal at this point, one that needs support to ensure that the government follows through. A formal submission is not required, a simple email outlining your feedback is all that is needed.

For more information on the Schedule 2 revocation, and details about all of the proposed amendments, a copy of the proposed regulatory amendment document may be found here.

You may also read the full consultation document and submit your feedback on the Regulatory Registry website until December 1, 2017. Or you may send your response by December 1, by e-mail to: CCGE_modernization@ontario.ca or by mail to:
