Excerpts from the press release: The Canadian Child Care Federation (CCCF) is disappointed by comments Minister Monte Solberg has made to the media dismissing the need for national standards for child care. According to reports today by CanWest News Service, the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development has said that the federal government won't hold the provinces and territories accountable to funding quality child care and that "having the same standards for downtown Toronto or Nunavut just doesn't make any sense." CCCF acknowledges that provinces and territories have varying needs in terms of child care, however there are fundamental similarities and common issues across the country that need to be addressed on a national level. "Our members in downtown Toronto and Nunavut &em; in fact in all jurisdictions &em; share remarkably similar challenges," said Don Giesbrecht, CCCF President.
