Windsor West NDP MPP Lisa Gretzky presented petitions at Queen’s Park Monday calling on the government to stop proposed age grouping and ratios in child care.

“Parents and childcare workers in my community are concerned that proposed changes to licensed child care will make infant care less available and place our youngest children in larger groups with fewer staff,” said Gretzky in a news release.

She said the Wynne government must listen to thousands of parents, early child educators and sector leaders that have signed the petition to stop the changes.

The deadline for comments on the issue closed on Friday but the number of people signing petitions continues to grow.

“Parents in Ontario are already paying the highest childcare fees in the country,” said Gretzky.

“Now, the government’s regulation changes, coupled with the fact that no new funding was announced in the budget, may force parents to pay even more. I’m encouraging everyone in Windsor and across Ontario to sign the petition and help us fight these changes.”
