EXCERPTS:

The Liberals will take aggressive steps to improve childcare in the territory, said Takhini-Kopper King Liberal candidate Cherish Clarke.

First, the Liberals will ensure that the direct-operating grant for daycares and dayhomes is permanent, she said.

...

The Liberals are promising to revise the Direct Operating Grant formula to make it more attractive for daycares and dayhomes, provide $100,000 in new annual funding to support the training and retention of qualified day-care workers, and work with child-care providers to ensure parents of special needs children are not charged more for childcare.

They are also promising to modify the child subsidy policy to prevent child support payments from being considered as income and are advocating for additional federal funding for child-care centres and family day homes.

"It would be a Liberal government's goal to make child-care spaces available to all Yukon families who wish to have one," said Clarke. "We would work collaboratively with Yukon parents, educators and the federal government to achieve this goal."
