Saskatchewan was one of the first provinces to sign on to the former Liberal government's $5-billion child-care plan last year &em; a plan that would have meant $146 million for the province over five years.

Now, with the Conservatives in power, that plan is on the way out. Instead, the new government will give money directly to parents.

People who teach and care for Saskatchewan's children are wondering what will happen next. Some of them will be meeting with Saskatchewan Learning Minister Deb Higgins in Regina Wednesday to talk about their options.

"It's a huge disappointment to us," Higgins said. "This was a pretty substantial expansion here in Saskatchewan in early learning and in the child-care field."

….

Higgins says many plans will have to be cut but she wants to hear from experts about what they may still be able to do to improve child care in Saskatchewan.
