EXCERPTS

BC's minister of state for child care is choosing her words carefully around whether Prime Minister Stephen Harper will honour his predecessor's pledge to give B.C. 633 million dollars over five years for daycare programs.

Linda Reid says BC has already received 92 million dollars...and as for whether Harper continues with the Liberal daycare plan or opts for giving money to families instead...

"It would be wondrous to see him do both, I think that all of us are of a similar vintage on this line, that indeed we have had a family allowance program in this country for years and years to put dollars directly into the hands of families, I support that, I also support the opportunity for us to build child care space in British Columbia and Alberta and Saskatchewan."

The NDP says Premier Gordon Campbell should publicly call on Harper to honour the deal.
