What is CIRC?
CIRC is a database program designed by the Childcare Resource and Research
Unit and contains a comprehensive catalogue of materials on child care
policy and related topics, such as work and family issues, child and
family services, women and work issues, and more.
The collection currently references 16,000 documents. It contains items
from a variety of sources:
- books;
- Canadian and foreign government documents;
- reports from organizations and agencies; research institutes and
universities;
- scholarly journals articles;
- magazines and newsletters from professional groups and organizations;
- videotapes; and
- bibliographies and abstracts collected from public domain sources
or written by CRRU.
How are the documents categorized in CIRC?
The documents are categorized according to a subject classification
system developed by CRRU. Each document is assigned an unlimited number
of subject areas. (See search by subject
for the list of subjects).
How can we access the materials on CIRC?
All documents listed in CIRC are available on-site at CRRU. Individuals
in the Toronto area can visit the Unit, Monday to Friday, by appointment
only. Most materials may be borrowed in limited quantities for one week
and photocopying is available on the premises.
Individuals outside the Toronto area should locate the items in their
local public and academic libraries. Some distant borrowing (within
Canada) and other services may be arranged by mail, phone, fax or e-mail.
